Cancer Care and Clinical Practice Management

SOCRON will work to minimize the cancer burden in society, enhance the well being and survival of people with cancer, and ensure an appropriate environment in which high-quality cancer care can be accessed and delivered.

Objectives:

  • Develop and implement programs to identify and help eliminate barriers to high-quality cancer care, and advocate appropriate resources to ensure full access to services.

  • Work closely with government agencies, in the Nigeria and to shape health care policies affecting cancer care and clinical practice management.

  • Provide expert opinion that establishes or clarifies standards of evidence-based cancer care.

  • Increase collaboration among oncology societies and institutions to improve cancer care.

Multidisciplinary Member Needs

SOCRON will provide for the professional needs of its multidisciplinary membership.

Objectives:

  • Promote multidisciplinary cancer care, prevention, education, and research in training and practice.

  • Position SOCRON as the organization that serves the multidisciplinary and disease-oriented educational needs of all clinical oncology specialties.

  • Partner strategically with specialty societies, governmental agencies, and industry to meet the needs of a multidisciplinary membership.

  • Assess and respond to membership needs with sensitivity and attention to distinct constituencies.

Education

SOCRON will provide education designed to meet the needs of its diverse membership.

Objectives:

  • Develop and disseminate high-caliber educational programs, products, and services throughout the year.

  • Ensure that educational programs and materials emphasize state-of-the-art knowledge about clinical science, biology, population science, technology, and all areas of oncology research.

  • Assess the educational needs of distinct membership constituencies on a regular basis, develop new programs as indicated, and retire programs as appropriate.

  • Direct educational content to keep SOCRON at the leading edge of communicating advances in oncology research.

  • Develop a compendium of knowledge required for core competency in clinical oncology.

Research

SOCRON will promote high-quality clinical and translational research in oncology, with a focus on patient accrual to clinical trials.

Objectives:

  • Position SOCRON’s Annual Meeting as the premier forum for presentation of major advances in clinical oncology research in Nigeria.

  • Increase participation in high-quality clinical trials in the community and in academia.

  • Develop and advocate for tools, resources, and regulatory oversight required to facilitate clinical and translational research.

  • Advocate for greater resources essential to the training of investigators and the conduct of high-caliber cancer research.

  • Develop and provide information and educational material to help clinical investigators compete successfully for funding and other resources to conduct their research.

Early Career Development

SOCRON will help new oncology specialists and trainees establish productive careers and practices.

Objectives:

  • Promote activities that enable new oncology specialists to establish productive careers in community practices, academia, and other settings.

  • Support the development of core curricula for training of all specialties in clinical oncology.

  • Provide educational opportunities and materials tailored to meet the needs of oncology fellows and new practitioners.

  • Advocate for appropriate resources and infrastructures to optimize training of clinical scientists.

Cancer Prevention and Control

SOCRON will integrate and promote prevention science and practice into its programs and policies.

Objectives:

  • Advocate for rapid, worldwide reduction and ultimate elimination of tobacco products and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, in collaboration with other organizations and professional societies.

  • Increase core knowledge about cancer risk and risk reduction through new educational initiatives.

  • Promote clinical, behavioral, and translational research, and education and training in cancer prevention and control.

  • Work to eliminate healthcare disparities in cancer risk assessment and early detection.

  • Provide prevention-oriented messages for individuals with a prior history of cancer and for the general public.

Authoritative Resource

SOCRON will be the authoritative resource on cancer in the Nigeria.

Objectives:

  • Provide credible and valuable information about cancer care, research, and prevention.

  • Enhance efforts to position SOCRON as the leading source of expert commentary to the media and other key audiences.

  • Increase awareness about the significance and benefits of clinical trials to patients and the general public.

  • Expand high-quality educational materials for patients and families online and in print.

  • Broaden public awareness of and support for SOCRON’s policies and positions
